Work/Life Balance

Norton Healthcare named a "Best Place to Work" for four consecutive years

Norton Healthcare was named one of the best places to work in Kentucky in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, according to the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management's Best Places to Work ranking. Our employees represent our most important asset, so we are pleased to be recognized for creating an environment that allows us to attract and retain the very best employees while making Norton Healthcare the best possible place to work.

Outstanding Employer of the Year: 2003, 2005, 2007

We are very proud of our workforce opportunities and innovative benefits. For the third time in four years, KentuckianaWorks named Norton Healthcare its "Outstanding Employer of the Year." The award is a prestigious honor that recognizes Norton Healthcare for innovation and responsiveness in enhancing workforce and economic development in Greater Louisville.

Norton Healthcare was honored for:

  • Being a regional and national leader in developing initiatives that aggressively address workforce challenges in health care and in Louisville-area communities.
  • Designing and implementing short- and long-term solutions to difficult workforce issues. The organization's efforts have encouraged and helped Norton Healthcare employees, disadvantaged and special needs youth, displaced persons, unemployed and underemployed persons, legal immigrants, persons with disabilities, single parents, minority students, international students, adult students, and many others to enter or advance in a health care career.
  • Creating a Workforce Development Office in 2000 focusing on workforce planning. It educates the public about the need for people to choose health care careers, develops new and grows existing programs, provides resources to candidates, and offers job placement after program completion.
  • Forging key academic and community partnerships, including those with all area colleges and universities; Kentucky Business Leadership Network; KentuckianaWorks , Kentucky Workforce Investment and disease-related boards of directors; Making Connections program; Project One; Louisville Urban League; Jefferson County Public Schools Adult and Continuing Education and many others.
  • Benefiting the Louisville region in many ways, including creating employment opportunities, improving patient care by preparing skilled clinicians for all Louisville-area health care providers, and increasing the number of caregivers.

A Top 10 Leader

Norton Healthcare has been recognized for our strong commitment to providing an environment that helps employees balance their home and work lives. In 2004 Greater Louisville Inc.'s Work/Life Alliance Awards named Norton a Top 10 Leader in Providing Work/Life Balance.

  • Nurse retention program, helping nurses find suitable positions that fit their skills and lifestyles.
  • On-site child care, offering child care and development activities in a newly-renovated environment.
  • Employer Assisted Housing, which has helped more than 90 employees achieve the dream of home ownership in less than three years.
  • A broad range of educational opportunities including the Norton Healthcare Scholars and Lansing Scholars programs and School at Work, helping entry level employees advance to higher paying health care careers.
  • Norton Concierge Services program, which provides discounts to employees.
  • New benefit options such as pet insurance, pre-paid legal plans, and auto and homeowners insurance.
